MISSOULA (AP) — A 42-year-old man shot and wounded by a Missoula County Sheriff’s deputy is being held in jail on $50,000 bail.
Eugene Statelen of Evaro made an appearance in Missoula County Justice Court on Tuesday after being released from a hospital the night before. He was in a wheelchair and had his right arm in a sling.
Court documents show Statelen was shot twice on New Year’s Eve after police say he attempted to run a car over a sheriff’s deputy. Deputies were called to his home after receiving a report that his girlfriend was beaten.
Statelen is charged with two misdemeanors and three felonies, including assault with a weapon.
