Superior stays with the competition

SUPERIOR – The Superior Bobcats hosted the Thompson Falls Bluehawks last Saturday as the winter basketball season moved into 2015.

The game was hard fought until the end and Thompson Falls narrowly came up with the 30-23 victory.

Wyatt Zylawy led the Bobcats in scoring, putting up 12 points on the night.

It was the Bobcats who jumped out to an early lead following the start of the game taking an 8-5 lead into the second quarter.

The Bluehawks responded in the second quarter putting up nine points to send the game into half time all squared at 14-14.

Thompson Falls carried their momentum into the second half, outscoring Superior 12-4 in the third quarter to make the score 26-18.

Superior is now 2-4 on the year.

The Bobcats were on the road last Friday, traveling to Hot Springs to face off against the Savage Heat.

In another close game, which wasn’t decided until the final seconds Superior narrowly lost to Hot Springs 44-42.

Aaron Kelly and Josh Benda each reached double digits in scoring for Superior, with Kelly scoring 13 points and Benda adding 10 points of his own.

Hot Springs jumped out to a 12-11 lead after one quarter of play but Superior came roaring back in the second quarter scoring 15 points to end the first half with a 26-16 lead.

The Savage Heat chipped away at the lead in the third quarter outscoring Superior 11-10 and sending the score to 36-27 at the start of the fourth quarter.

Hot Springs outscored Superior 17-6 in the final quarter of play.

Up next for the Bobcats will be a home game against Charlo on Thursday, Jan. 8.
