HAYDEN - It was a honeymoon cut short.

Matthew R. Mulder, 30, Sandpoint, had just gotten married when he was arrested on Saturday after being charged with three counts of aggravated assault, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office.

"He and his new bride were southbound from Sandpoint to Coeur d'Alene to celebrate their nuptials," said KCSO Lt. Stu Miller.

According to a deputy's report, a 23-year-old male was driving a pickup southbound in the left (fast) lane on U.S. 95 near Silverwood Theme Park with three other occupants, including a 6-year-old girl.

The pickup driver reportedly didn't change to the slower lane as Mulder and his bride approached the truck.

"The car (driven by Mulder) aggressively passed the truck and made some other reckless movements," Miller said.

The driver of the pickup saw Mulder pull into the Super 1 Foods parking lot in Hayden, so he followed to call 911 and report the alleged incident, the report states.

Once in the parking lot, the car spun around and nearly struck other cars, the caller told a deputy.

Mulder then allegedly exited his car and walked toward the pickup carrying a handgun pointed down.

The victims said Mulder pointed his gun at them from a short distance, shook his head and then walked back to his car, the report states.

As a deputy was responding, the pickup driver, who had left the parking lot, flagged the deputy down to describe the alleged incident. Mulder then pulled up and told his side of the story.

After listening to all those involved, Mulder admitted to everything except pointing the gun, the report states.

Mulder was arrested on aggravated assault charges and issued a ticket for reckless driving.

At his first appearance on Monday, Mulder's bond was set at $5,000. He posted bond later that day.
