They've had some time to work on things.

Now, it's time to get after someone else.

The North Idaho College men's and women's basketball team, fresh off wins against Northwest Athletic Conference opponents, return to Scenic West Athletic Conference play tonight at the Salt Lake Bruins.

"We're ready to get back at it," NIC men's coach Corey Symons said. "We're a little disappointed the Blue Mountain game got canceled (on Sunday due to hazardous roads), but we had a good week of practice and ready to get back at it."

Games are available via webcast at www.nicathletics.com starting with the women's game at 4:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 6:30.

The weekend roadtrip concludes on Saturday against Snow College in Ephraim, Utah, with the women's game starting at 2 p.m., followed by the men at 4.

MEN: NIC is third in the conference, averaging 87.1 points per game, compared to Salt Lake, which is fifth at 83.8 per outing. Salt Lake is second in scoring defense, allowing 69.1 points per game, with NIC third at 70 points per game.

Jamaal Robateau is third in the conference in scoring for NIC with 14.5 points per game, followed by teammate Djuan Piper at 14.5 a game.

Salt Lake is ranked 15th in the latest NJCAA poll, released on Tuesday, falling from fourth in the previous poll after three losses over the holidays.

"They're a good team," Symons said. "The good thing for us is they're coming off a tough stretch of games. They've got a couple of bigs that are really good."

Blake Wilkinson is a 6-foot-7 sophomore transfer from Utah, as well as 7-foot sophomore Brandon Morley.

"They're a typical Salt Lake team," Symons said. "Really, really good."

Southern Idaho, who visits NIC next week, is third. NIC received 12 votes, but did not crack the top 25.

Snow guard Walter Wright leads the conference in scoring (23.4 points per game) and assists (6.6 per game).

"He's had some great games this year," Symons said. "He's had a couple of 30- and 40-point games. He's little, but tough as lightning. He's one of the better guards in the country."

WOMEN: Sophomore guard Kara Staggs leads the conference in scoring with 15.8 points per game for NIC, which has won three of its last four games.

Mariah Swanson is fourth in scoring (13.8) and second in rebounding (8.3) for NIC.

Shelby Richards is Salt Lake's top scorer, averaging 12.8 points per game. Raushan Gultekin leads the conference in assists per game with 4.4 for Salt Lake.

Like the men's team, Salt Lake is 15th, with Snow at 12th in this week's women's poll, released Wednesday. Southern Idaho is 25th.

The Cardinals are third in the conference in scoring at 76.8 points per game, with Salt Lake fifth at 73.9.

Salt Lake leads the conference in scoring defense at 54.5 a game, with NIC fourth at 69.1.
