COEUR d'ALENE - The Modern Theater Coeur d'Alene has announced that it will hold auditions for the upcoming production of "God of Carnage" at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 19 and 20.

"God of Carnage," by Yazmina Reza, has won three Tony Awards. It is a complex comedy - a study of the tension between civilized surface and savage instinct. Conflict takes place as audiences witness two couples who meet to discuss their children's playground altercation. Once the rum takes over and the queasy stomach kicks in, the gloves come off and diplomacy is thrown out the window.

The roles are: Alan Raleigh, a lawyer age 35-45 who is married to Annette and father to Benjamin; Annette Raleigh, age 35-45, works in "wealth management," married to Alan and mother of Benjamin; Michael Novak, age 35-45, owner of a wholesale company, married to Veronica and father to Henry; and Veronica Novak, a writer age 35-45, wife of Michael and mother to Henry.

"God of Carnage," translated by Christopher Hampton and directed by Heather McHenry-Kroetch, does contain adult themes and language and may not be suitable for all audience members. The show will run March 27 through April 12. Auditions will be cold readings from the script at The Modern Theater Coeur d'Alene, 1320 E. Garden Ave.
