Christopher Lara of Wahluke controls an Ephrata opponent on his way to a 10-1 victory at 126 pounds at the Christmas Wrestling Tournament.

MATTAWA - The Wahluke Warriors sent wrestlers to the Royal Christmas Tournament and Warden Invitational over the holidays, and they came back with several medals.

At Royal, Juan Toscano took second place at 113 pounds while Adrian Toscano, a state qualifier last year, won third place at 145 pounds.

Warrior coach Rigoberto Jimenez was particularly pleased with the efforts of freshmen Reyes Ramirez and Christopher Morales. Ramirez won two matches by pin. Morales won two matches by decision.

At Warden last Saturday, three of the four wrestlers Jimenez entered placed. Sebastian Barajas took second place at 113 pounds, and Juan Toscano finished right behind him at the same weight. Christian Fabela finished fifth at his weight.

"I keep telling my wrestlers that whomever wants to the most will win, and I have seen big improvement every time they wrestle," Jimenez said.
