Alumni wrestling a success for Royal

ROYAL CITY - The first Royal High School alumni wrestling matches, held during the holidays, were a success, Royal High coach Randy Miller declared.

"I hope next year we have more in attendance," he said.

The matches were sponsored by the Royal High wrestling program as a fund raiser for needs not covered by state educational funds.

"It was a great night for the veterans to take to the mats and revisit some old memories," Miller said. "We also raised some much needed funding for projects and workout equipment for the high school wrestling team."

First Annual Alumni Match Participants were:

Rick Mianecki (1988)7th and 8th place at state

Carlos Villa (2005) currently an assistant coach at Royal High School

Humberto Jimenez (2008)

Luke Tonnemaker (2008) 8th at state

Danny Barajas (2012) state champion

Jerry Yorgensen (1988) 3rd, 4th, state champion

Jose Mathis (2007) 3rd and 6th at state

Rigoberto Jimenez (2008) state qualifier

Jose Butler (2003) 8th, 4th, 2nd at state

Linious Sparks (1987) two-time state champion

"I really appreciate them coming out," Miller said. "I can't thank them enough."
