The Libby Loggers visited Frenchtown on Saturday and came home with their seventh loss of the season, falling 75-35.
The Loggers were outscored 14-7 in the first quarter, but fought their way back into the game before the half ended by scoring 20 points in the second. They went into the locker room trailing by only seven at the half.
Frenchtown dominated the third quarter, dropping 33 points compared to just four from Libby. The Broncs outscored the Loggers eight to four in the final period, cruising to a 40-point win.
Libby coach Josh Bean attributed the dropoff in the second half to strong defensive pressure by Frenchtown. “The kids played well the first half. Frenchtown upped the pressure in the second half with full-court man-to-man and we had some bad turnovers. Our rebounding was not very good which led to easy shots for them. Frenchtown did a nice job of taking advantage of the mismatches in their favor.”
Jonny Cielak topped the Logger stat line with 14 points, two steals, one rebound and one assist. Erik Lauer added seven points, seven boards and a block.
Frenchtown’s Bridger Truett led his team with 22 points and two rebounds, while Austen Means contributed 15 points, three assists and two steals. Chris Delaney rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10, adding six assists.
The Loggers are now 0-7, with 12 games remaining on their schedule for the season. They have back-to-back home games this weekend, with Plains visiting on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off and Polson coming in at 4 p.m. on Saturday, according to the high school’s online calendar.
Final line:
Libby 7 20 4 4 35
Frenchtown 14 20 33 8 75
