Teton County seeks landfill help

JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) - Teton County may be eligible this year for much of the estimated $8 million needed to rehabilitate its leaking and long-closed landfill.
The money would be used to cap the county's old landfill so contaminants can't leach into groundwater below the Horsethief Canyon facility.
The county now ships trash that can't be recycled to a dump in Idaho.
According to the Jackson Hole News and Guide, state funds would supplement $14 million that county voters approved in 2012 to clean up the site after Department of Environmental Quality agents found pollutants escaping from its 32 acres of buried trash.
