MOSES LAKE - The Martin Luther King Jr. Committee will host a birthday celebration in honor of the Civil Rights icon on Monday, Jan. 19, at 6 p.m. at the Moses Lake Civic Center Auditorium.

Reverend Plasido Lindsey will conduct a re-enactment of the 'I Have a Dream' speech that was given by Dr. King on August 28, 1963 at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C.

The guest speaker will be Pastor Wayne Jenkins from the New Hope Baptist Church in Pasco. There will also be singing from gospel choirs and Spanish dancers from Quincy.

Maryamu Givens, Director of the Harambe Theatre, is working with youths in the area. According to Givens, the kids from Harambe are going to be doing a lesson on the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

"This is going to be a spectacular event, where the general public is invited to participate and remember the life and dream of Martin Luther King Jr. and how his dream is alive today," committee President Charlie Jones said.

The Committee has solicited essays from third- through sixth-grade students from local schools. Students were asked to submit an essay on the life and dream of Martin Luther King Jr., or how they see his dream alive today. The first, second, and third place winners will be announced and awarded at the celebration.
