Columbia Falls, Whitefish grapplers win league duals

POLSON — Columbia Falls won four straight matches from 126 to 145, eight overall, to defeat Polson 41-27 Thursday evening in a Northwestern A wrestling dual.

Columbia Falls, ranked third in this week’s Class A poll, had four pins — Austin Nelson (103), Shonn Roberts (138), Colton Gove (145) and Spencer Ross (285).

Two Mat Cats won by major decisions — Haze Bell (126) and Storm Kemppainen (160).

Kaleb Gravelin (132) won by decision and Mike Dennison (182) by forfeit.

Polson’s Cameron Brown (113), Colton Cote (152), Tel Seemann (170) and Mike Corrigan (205) were pin winners.

Polson’s Parker Alder (120) won by decision in overtime, 11-9.

Adler pulled off a reversal just before time ran out to end the third period to force overtime. Less than 20 seconds in to extended action, he won the match by takedown.

“I’m really happy with them,” Polson coach Bob Owen said of his Pirates.

“They wrestled hard tonight. They made up some ground.”

Up next for Polson and Columbia Falls is the Rocky Mountain Classic in Missoula this weekend. Wrestling action begins today at 10 a.m.

FRENCHTOWN — Whitefish won six of the nine matches that were contested to pull out a tight Northwestern A dual victory over sixth-ranked Frenchtown.

Whitefish forfeited three weight classes to one for Frenchtown.

Dillon Thorsteinson (126), Brooks Krause (138), Matt Sampson (170) and Travis Catina (205) won by pins for Whitefish.

Judah Prestegaard (160) won by technical fall and Matt Carr (182) by decision for the Bulldogs.
