Family fun at the symphony

COEUR d'ALENE - The Coeur d'Alene Symphony Orchestra's first concert of the year will be fun for the whole family - movie night.

Audiences can look forward to favorite songs from "Frozen," "Video Games Live," "James Bond," "The Hobbit," "Mamma Mia" and more during the Family Fun at the Symphony concert at the Salvation Army Kroc Center at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 23 and 2 p.m. Jan. 24.

Focusing on local talent this year, the Coeur d'Alene Symphony Orchestra will be joined by the Coeur d'Alene Youth Orchestra under the direction of principal timpanist Christ Grant. The youth orchestra will be interspersed through the group, sitting next to more experienced symphony players for several of the pieces. To further enhance the music, maestro David Demand will bring in St. George's School Chorus to provide vocals on "Mamma Mia" and "Skyfall."

A grant from Kootenai Electric Cooperative has made it possible for those younger than 18 to be admitted free with a paying adult, but the offer is only available by calling 660-2958 by Jan. 22.

Regular tickets are $27 for adults, $21 for seniors 65 and older and $16 for youths and students with IDs. High school students who are actively participating in their school music programs may purchase tickets to the Coeur d'Alene Symphony's regular season concerts for just $10, only by phone.
