Greenchain drops dual in Eureka

Greenchain wrestling took their act on the road again Tuesday night, as the team traveled to Eureka for a dual meet.
Three Greenchain wrestlers pinned their opponents, one picked up a decision win and one more won by forfeit.
Mason Sams took a forfeit win in the 103-pound weight class and Michael Miller beat Eureka’s Colby Humm in a 12-3 decision at 170 pounds.
Dylan Parrish pinned Tim Carvey at the 1:48 mark in the 152-pound class. In the 160 weight class, Zach Crace got the pin against Levi Garcia, just beating the whistle at 1:59. Libby’s biggest wrestler, Garret Chapel, pinned Joe Fehr in just under one minute.
Libby’s Tim Brivka, Reed Christensen and Dylan Roby were pinned by their Eureka opponents, and Cody Kessel lost an 11-2 decision to Josh Schmidt.
Both teams forfeited in the 113 and 285 pound weight classes. Libby also forfeited to Eureka’s Sam Johnson in the 205 class.
With a full roster, Libby could very well have secured the team victory on Tuesday night, but that’s not Greenchain coach Kelly Morford’s main concern. He said his focus is on the matches his team wrestles, not on the holes in the roster. “We like to keep score based on the actual matches wrestled so we can keep track of how we are competing as a team. For example, we won four and lost five against Glacier and went five and five against Frenchtown. In Eureka, we went four and four in varsity matches.”
Intensity is what Morford wants from his team, an intensity that dropped off a bit against Eureka. “I thought we were competing pretty hard against Glacier and Frenchtown and had a drop off in intensity against Eureka,” he said. “Our season-long goal is to make our next match our best match of the season, so it was disappointing to see us regress a little like that. But we will get back in the room and get better and prepare for a tough tournament in Missoula.”
The Greenchain travels to Missoula for the Rocky Mountain Tourney this weekend.
