Sundquist, Sandpoint handle Moscow
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 10 years, 11 months AGO
SANDPOINT - Paul Sundquist banged down low for all of his 10 points, and Troy Mitton had a strong game defensively, leading the Sandpoint Bulldogs to a 45-37 win over the Moscow Bears in 4A Inland Empire League game at Les Rogers Court on Saturday.
Mitton scored seven points and hit two timely 3-pointers, but it was his ball-hawking defense on Moscow's Jack Akey, who was held to 13 points, that was the biggest key to the win. Befitting a league clash, there were a lot of players hitting the floor for loose balls, and a lot of physical possessions.
"Jack Akey is a really good player, and we defended him really well. Troy Mitton did an outstanding job," said Bulldogs coach Kent Leiss. "The defensive effort was pretty good and the boys played really hard."
The Bulldogs (5-8, 1-0 4A IEL) had nine players score, and continue to sub in waves, pressuring full court and employing strong depth.
Moscow is 1-9, 0-2.

"Both those guys really kept us in the game," said Hanna of Hauck and Somershoe. "Both came off the bench. I don't know if it was nerves, but it was nice for them to give us a spark."

HARRISON FLATS - The visiting Knights won the Battle of the Trail boys spirit game thanks to a big game by Jordan Nilson, who finished with 16 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks in North Star League play.
"We came out pretty flat the first half," Lakeside coach Stacey Sonder said. "We didn't come out firing out on all cylinders. We had to rally in the second half. We only had six turnovers, which is good."
Colson Schultz scored 19 points and had seven rebounds for Kootenai (7-5, 3-1 NSL).
"It was a good game," Kootenai coach Doug Napierala said. "We went through a four-minute stretch in the third quarter where they were able to run on us off of long rebounds and they got some layups. We struggled getting back. In the second half, we panicked a little bit."
