The Lady Loggers split home games over the weekend, losing to Plains on Friday, then destroying Polson on Saturday.

The Lady Loggers fought a good first half against Plains, but found themselves slipping in the second half and fell to the visiting Trotters, 46-30.

The first quarter was a toe-to-toe fight, with four tie scores as the teams went back and forth. The first quarter ended in an 11-all tie.

The Trotters went on a 6-0 run to start the second quarter, adding strong defensive pressure. This forced the Lady Loggers to take more shots from the outside, but the shots just didn’t want to fall.

The Lady Loggers showed poise and determination in the second quarter, though, and reeled off seven consecutive points of their own to take an 18-17 lead with just one minute left in the half. Plains scored on a split pair of free throws and a jumpshot from Sami Kinzie to take a 20-18 lead into the locker room at the half.

In the second half the Lady Loggers seemed to run out of gas, as Plains stepped up the pressure on defense and forced crucial turnovers. While only able to capitalize on a few of those turnovers, the Trotters managed to pull further ahead as the Lady Loggers managed only six points in the critical third period, compared to 13 from the Trotters. The period ended with a 33-24 Plains lead.

The Lady Loggers energy level was way down in the fourth as well, as they repeated their thrid quarter woes, scoring only six points compared to Plains’ 13.

In the end, the Lady Loggers fell by 16, with a final score of 46-30 for the Plains Trotters.

Shannon Reny was Libby’s leading scorer with seven points, she also pulled down five rebounds. Shyla Stevenson added six points, eight boards, three assists and three blocks. Hailley Moe rounded out the top scorers with five points, four boards and two assists.

The loss dropped the Lady Loggers to 4-5 on the season, but the win on Saturday pushed their record back to .500.

Libby will be on the road against Glacier tonight and then back at home for a bout with Thompson Falls on Friday. Friday’s home game begins at 6 p.m.
