POST FALLS - About 65 Ku Klux Klan fliers were placed on the windshields of vehicles at a Post Falls apartment complex on Monday night, according to police.

The fliers were printed from a Traditionalist American Knights of the Ku Klux Klan website that lists a 24-hour "Klanline" number and mentions the group's "neighborhood watch" program.

"You can sleep tonight knowing the Klan is awake," the fliers state.

Post Falls Police Capt. Pat Knight said there are no suspects.

"This is nothing we haven't seen before," Knight said, "although we haven't seen such material for a couple years."

The fliers were reported around 11:30 p.m. at an apartment complex on Donegal Lane in Tullamore Commons west of Highway 41 and north of Poleline Avenue.

"Generally, 90 percent of the people don't even look at the material and throw it away," Knight said. "It looks like they printed the fliers in bulk to get the most bang for their buck and targeted an area that has a high concentration of vehicles. They didn't single out anyone."

The fliers were tucked under the windshield wipers of the vehicles.

Knight said a female reported the same flier on a vehicle windshield around 3 a.m. in the 1600 block of East Second Street.

The suspect or suspects could face misdemeanor charges, including for littering and placing propaganda on private property without permission.

Knight said Post Falls Police checked with other surrounding law enforcement agencies, including the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, Coeur d'Alene Police and Rathdrum Police, and there were no other reports of the flier being distributed in those areas.

"It appears the only area they hit was us," Knight said.
