POST FALLS - A 40-year-old man wanted for robbery was arrested at a Post Falls restaurant on Sunday after allegedly telling a waitress he's in the Mafia and would kill her if he received poor service.
Richard Frank Martin, Spokane Valley, was booked into the Kootenai County jail after allegedly making the comments at G.W. Hunters restaurant at 615 N. Spokane St. around 3:30 p.m.
Martin was wanted in Spokane County for attempted first-degree robbery.
After a Post Falls police officer responded to the restaurant due to the alleged threatening comments, an employee told the officer that Martin said he had friends who had received bad service at the business recently.
"He told (an employee) he was in the Mafia and would kill her if he received poor service," the police report states.
The employee chose not to press charges and was just seeking to have Martin leave.
Martin complied when the officer asked him to step outside, according to the report. When the officer asked if Martin had any weapons on him, he said he had a pocket knife in his right pants pocket.
Based on Martin's alleged threats to the waitress, the officer requested that Martin face away from him with his hands behind his back so the knife could be safely removed. The folding knife was completely locked open, the report states.
"I asked Richard why he carried his knife that way and he said he has a seizure disorder and it was for protection," the report states. "He also said he could not get it to close. However, we did not find it difficult to close. It should be noted that Richard later told me he has not had a seizure in approximately 10 years because of the medication he is taking."
A short time later, dispatchers confirmed that Martin had a warrant from Spokane County for robbery.
In addition to being booked on the warrant, Martin was issued a no-trespass warning and told he is no longer allowed at the business.
