PONDERAY - A Ponderay man was arrested Monday after a search of his residence turned up nearly 9 pounds of marijuana.

Dwayne Curtis Washburn is charged with trafficking and delivery of a controlled substance. He's further charged with being a persistent violator due to two previous felony convictions in other jurisdictions.

Washburn, 41, made an initial appearance in Bonner County Magistrate Court on Tuesday. Judge Lori Meulenberg sustained Washburn's $60,000 bail and appointed a public defender to represent him, court records show.

Officers from Ponderay and Sandpoint, in addition to sheriff's deputies, executed warrant to search Washburn's home in the 200 block of Birch Avenue on Monday afternoon. The search coincided with allegations that Washburn furnished pot to a 33-year-old Sagle woman, the criminal complaint alleges.

Also arrested following the search was Shelby Rae Donahoe, who was apparently staying at the Birch Avenue home. She was arrested for possession of intravenous drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine, items which were found in a purse in the home.

Donahoe, 24, was also charged with resisting arrest for allegedly bolting from the home during the search, court documents indicate.

If Washburn is convicted, the persistent violator enhancement would tack on a sentence of five years to life to whatever punishment is meted out for the felony drug offenses.
