PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Rhodes helps Timberlake clinch IML crown
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 10 years, 10 months AGO
PRIEST RIVER - Payten Rhodes scored 11 points, including 4 for 4 from the free throw line in the final two minutes to push the Timberlake Tigers past the Priest River Spartans in an Intermountain League game Tuesday night at Spartan Arena.
With the win, Timberlake (16-2, 5-0 IML) - the top-ranked team in the latest state 3A girls basketball media poll - clinches the league championship and will be the No. 1 seed to the 3A District 1 tournament starting Feb. 9 at North Idaho College in Coeur d'Alene.
"Payten did a good job of making her free throws down the stretch to extend the lead," Timberlake coach Matt Miller said. "That was a big deal for us. Both teams didn't shoot the ball well, and we went 3 for 20 in the second half, but both teams did a good job on the defensive end."
Allison Kirby scored nine points for Timberlake, which hosts Bonners Ferry on Tuesday. Fellow sophomore Keelie Lawler did not play for the Tigers after suffering a concussion during a P.E. class on Monday.
Kaitlyn Summers scored 16 points for Priest River (12-6, 2-2), ranked third in last week's poll.
