After returning from what they call their "miraculous adventure" performing in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Coeur d'Alene's own Red Hot Mamas are ready to tackle another opportunity - they were contacted by the "America's Got Talent" production team and asked to audition for season 10 of the show.

When the production team reviewed the Red Hot Mamas website, Facebook page and audition materials, it decided the group should move into the next phase of auditioning and a series of interviews began. After the completion of many criteria, Mikki Stevens, originator and president of the group, was told "Go full steam ahead!" toward performing before the celebrity judges in April. The Mamas will produce comedy/dance routines.

Twenty experienced and vintage stage performers are being assembled to enjoy this adventure. Previously trained Red Hot Mamas and experienced dancer/performers may apply for an audition through [email protected]. They are looking for vintage women with stage presence, dance ability, and a positive zest for life. Rehearsals begin immediately on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 6-8:30 p.m. with travel the first week in April and approximately every other month until elimination from the show. Flight and hotel expenses are covered.

To keep the Red Hot Mamas shining forward, business professional Elaine Damschen has accepted the position of administration and marketing manager and retired U.S. Army Col. Marilyn Fisher assumed the position of General Manager with assistant Lynda Nutt. Vicky Jo Carey continues in creative development and Karen Welts continues in administrative support.

The group is rallying a creative support team to help with the extensive preparations. Behind-the-scenes angels who make the whole thing work are needed in the following areas: Storage facility, heated workshop, dance rehearsal facility, seamstresses and prop builders. They are also looking for bookkeeping and theater legal expertise. If you would enjoy volunteering on the creative support team, you may contact the "Mamas" through [email protected].

Last year the Mamas contributed to community service monthly and have plans for serving at PEAK Health and Wellness Biggest Loser Celebrations in April, The Veterans Stand Down in May, and Komen Race for the Cure in September.

The Red Hot Mamas are "Dedicated to exploitation of merriment and enhancement of the ridiculous!" www.rhmamas.com

Yes, miracles happen

Deborah Miranda is a multifaceted mama with an eager smile. She gets a special thrill from watching happy faces as she performs with RHM. You might find her snowmobiling on the top of a mountain with family, or snuggled up with her most recent book club reading, or enjoying an indulgent spa treatment, but you will never find her in clutter. She is a self-described minimalist. She collects nothing. Her family said if they stood still long enough she'd toss them out.

'Who are you and what have you done with my son?'

'Fun-loving' is a good description for Kelly Caldero. She once decorated a colleague's office with everything spider-esque she could find. After enjoying his "freak out," she told him it was just a little thing she could do to help him overcome his arachnophobia.
