Pursuit ends in arrest

HAYDEN — A wanted 28-year-old Post Falls man was arrested on several charges after a short pursuit in Hayden on Thursday afternoon.
Leslie H. Kneeland was booked into the Kootenai County Jail on charges of felony eluding, obstructing an officer and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
Additionally, Kneeland had five outstanding warrants for his arrest which he was also booked on. Those charges include domestic battery, possession of drug paraphernalia, leaving the scene of an accident, driving while suspended, battery and probation violation.
A Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office deputy and his partner attempted to stop a car on Hayden Avenue near Ramsey Road around 1 p.m. for a license plate violation, according to a KCSO press release. Kneeland allegedly sped away and attempted to elude the deputy. The pursuit reached more than 70 mph in a residential neighborhood, according to the KCSO.
At the end of a residential street, the Kneeland’s car was found abandoned in the middle of the road and the suspect had fled on foot, the press release states.
Deputies chased Kneeland on foot through yards and over fences. The suspect was located in a back yard in the 9900 block of North Meadow Way. Kneeland was given commands, he complied and was arrested without further incident, according to the KCSO.
Kneeland’s jail booking history in Kootenai County includes 23 prior arrests for charges such as drugs, battery, driving while suspended, probation violation, theft, attempted strangulation and possession of stolen property.
