ROYAL CITY - The Royal City City Council learned at its meeting of Jan. 9 that Catholic Charities is moving forward with plans for a new low-income housing complex in Royal City.

City Planner Darryl Piercy told the council that Catholic Charities is still working out the funding for a project that will be similar in size to the existing Catholic Charities-supported complex.

According to City Finance Director Greg Pike, the new complex will be built "just down the hill" from the existing complex at Apple and Poplar. Pike believes Catholic Charities hopes to start construction later this year.

Piercy reported to the council that the new middle school project is ahead of schedule, with interior work under way. He added that the Rock Creek development is progressing, with two new building permits issued.

Mayor Kent Andersen told the council that the bid from Tommer Construction has come in for a planned roads project. He said the City is moving forward with the resurfacing of Acacia, Fern, Widmer, Hargraves, and King Streets.

The Council approved a consent agenda that included the council meeting minutes from December 16, the payroll for 12/31/14 in the amount of $40,110.18, claims for 12/31/14 in the amount of $45,074.96, and claims for 01/06/15 in the amount of $12,189.32.
