Saturday will be a day of patriotism as Fourth of July events in Coeur d'Alene start with the annual American Heroes Parade.
The parade begins at 11 a.m. on Sherman Avenue and 15th Street, moving west toward Government Way.
After the parade, which is about an hour long, vendors will be at Coeur d'Alene City Park all day. There will be karaoke in the park at 4 p.m. and local band Nu Jack City will begin playing at 6 p.m.
Steve Wilson, president of the Coeur d'Alene Chamber of Commerce, said the Snake Pit Roller Derby Dames will be collecting money along the parade route for donations toward the fireworks show set to begin at dusk, around 9:45 p.m. over Lake Coeur d'Alene, off Independence Point.
"The fireworks show will be spectacular as usual," Wilson said.
Wilson said there are about 70 entries in the parade, many of them patriotic. A couple of the entries Wilson mentioned are The Red Hot Mamas and the Percussionauts.
The grand marshal this year is 91-year-old Harold Kiel of Hayden. Kiel served in the Navy during World War II, helping victims of kamikaze attacks and inspired a local author to write the book, "One Came Home."
The 2015 Fourth of July festival in Coeur d'Alene is sponsored by Numerica Credit Union. The parade is sponsored by Knudtsen Chevrolet and the events in the park are sponsored by the Coeur d'Alene Casino Resort and Spa.
Wilson said the weather is projected to be very warm Saturday and wanted to remind everyone to stay hydrated.
"It really made a big difference during the Ironman ... considering it was 105 degrees there were very few major incidents," Wilson said.
