Nancy Jane King, 93
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 9 years, 6 months AGO
Born February 14, 1922, in Detroit, Michigan. She was married to James King (RIP 1995), and died in Hospice House of North Idaho on June 24, 2015.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Jefferson Barber and Bertha Barber; her husband, James King; son John King; great-grandson Kevin Moore; and her four siblings. Mrs. King is survived by her two sons, Jim (Kathy) and Matthew (Janet); grandchildren Amber Rau (Pete), James King (Kortney), Byron O'Hara (Kim), Katherine Brockhoff (Mike), April McAvoy (John), Jennifer Smith (John), Matthew King, Alexander King, Harry King and Brandon King; 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. She loved her family and was there to help in time of need. She will be missed by all.
Nancy spent her early childhood in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan, and after her father's death in 1928 she moved with her mother to the family farm in Romeo, Michigan. Nancy graduated from Romeo High School in 1939. She was the Peach Queen of Romeo in 1938. Nancy attended Michigan State University, but left after a few semesters to marry the love of her life, James. They lived in Michigan, Southern California, and Coeur d'Alene. While living in California, Nancy was a library assistant for the city library.
After they moved to Coeur d'Alene in 1972, she worked as medical clerk for KMC, retiring in 1987. She was a confident woman who was not afraid of hard work. She lived her life by determining what she wanted and then making sure she accomplished what she had set out to do. She was a wonderful role model to many. And, Nancy was a domestic goddess-a wonderful cook, seamstress, gardener, home decorator, and handywoman. She also loved to travel; trips included Asia, Europe, Alaska, Caribbean, and the United Kingdom. In addition, she doted over her miniature schnauzers.
A memorial service and reception will be held Monday July 6, 2015 at 2:00pm at Yates Funeral Home Hayden Chapel, 373 East Hayden Ave, Hayden Idaho. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 N Government Way, Hayden Idaho. They provided Nancy with exceptional care.
