Richard 'Rick' Steading, 62
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 9 years, 6 months AGO
Richard "Rick" Steading was born on Christmas Eve 1952, in Chicago, Ill., and passed away peacefully in his sleep at home in Rathdrum on June 27, 2015.
Rick attended St. Mathias Grade School and Gordon Tech High School in Chicago, and graduated in 1970. He married Janis Olson in August 1975 and they moved to Idaho. They lived in Plummer for 14 years where Rick had his own logging company and chainsaw shop. He always loved being a logger and loved being in the forests of Idaho.
The family moved to Hayden in 1990 and Rick began working for the Coeur d'Alene Press as a newspaper carrier, delivering papers to the lake homes on Hayden Lake until 2010 when he became disabled. In 1993, Rick had a heart transplant at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane and was one of their top transplant survivors, having made it over 22 years. He was currently waiting for a liver and kidney transplant.
Rick was one of the toughest guys around, a responsible family man and husband. He loved to work on the family cars and could fix anything around the house. He was a lifelong Bears fan.
Rick will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Steading; his mother, Marilyn Lange; father Cecil Steading; and father-in-law, Robert Olson.
Rick leaves his wife, Janis Steading; sons Steven Steading, Jason Steading, Christopher Steading, daughter-in-law Natalie Steading and grandson Christian Steading; his brothers Michael and David Steading; sister Gail Pecelunas and brother-in-law Tom Pecelunas; mother-in-law Myrtle Olson; brother-in-law Robert Olson and sister-in-law Mary Olson; niece Amy Olson and nephew Glenn Olson; brother-in-law Russell Olson and sister-in-law Cheryl Olson and nephew Caleb Olson.
Our lives were touched by Rick's quick wit, intelligence and steadfast nature. Rick, the past 40 years of living in "our fantastic Idaho" went by much too fast. We will always love you, Rick, and will miss you until we meet again in Heaven. Go Bears!
The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 6, at Yates Funeral Home, 744 N. Fourth St., Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Luncheon will follow at Cricket's Restaurant, 424 E. Sherman Ave., Coeur d'Alene.
It is suggested that donations be sent to the Kootenai Humane Society under the Kevin Steading memorial fund, P.O. Box 1005, Hayden, ID 83835.
