Louise Voves lost her fight to pancreatic cancer and passed away at home on June 26, 2015, surrounded by her loved ones. She was 90 years old.

Louise was born in Cheney, Wash., on March 12, 1925, to Johnny and Irene, both of Minot, N.D. She spent most of her early years in Blanchard and Oldtown, Idaho. In 1942 she married the love of her life, Harry Voves, in Metaline, Wash. They had three children together - Richard, Victor and Gwendilyn. After Harry passed away, Louise married Durant Hann and they had one daughter, Desiree.

Louise often worked as a waitress. During World War II, she worked at the Farragut Naval Training Base Officers Club, where she once served President Franklin D. Roosevelt. She would later serve President John F. Kennedy when she was a waitress at the Davenport Hotel in Spokane. While traveling with her husband Harry, they would meet and befriend Bing Crosby while attending a christmas party in McCall, Idaho. Louise also managed the snack bar at the Value Mart (Fred Meyer) and her love of gardening led to work at various nurseries. In her later years, she and her daughter Gwen would open and operate a bakery they called Knead-n-Dough, from which she would finally retire at 89 years old.

Louise worked hard to provide for her family, but that never stopped her from helping others who were less fortunate. She was a member of the St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Spokane since 1958. She was a member of the Spirit Lake and Athol Grandmother's Club since 1996, and was the club's Grandmother of the Year in 2001 and 2015. She was the vice president of the Spirit Lake Food Bank where she volunteered for 14 years and was a member of the Women's Auxiliary in Wilbur, Wash., for more than 20 years. She never met a stranger, and she never let a person in need go without help. Her 90th birthday party was attended by more than 100 friends and family.

Louise loved picking huckleberries, gardening, crossword puzzles, crocheting, camping, reading, and traveling. She always had a soft spot for lottery scratch cards, but her true passion in life were her mining claims.

Louise was preceded in death by husband, Harry Voves, in 1956; and husband Durant Hann, in 1986. She is survived by siblings Margie (Gene) Tuttle of Spokane, Wash., Ragna Fithen, Orland (Margie) Stone, of Clarkston, Wash., and Carol Reasor of Post Falls, Idaho; sons Richard (Ronnie) Voves of Spokane and Victor (Sherril) Voves of Worley; daughters Gwendilyn (Arnold) Bakie of Spirit Lake and Desiree Hann of Twin Lakes; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Louise will be remembered for her quick wit, kind heart, endless energy and her love of life. She will be greatly missed.

Viewing will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 6, at Yates Funeral Home, 744 N. 4th St., Coeur d'Alene. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, also at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d'Alene, followed by a graveside service at 3 p.m. at Riverside Memorial Park in Spokane.
