Whitefish Police are searching for a suspect involved in a late-night stabbing last week near downtown.

According to Whitefish Police Chief Bill Dial, a man and his girlfriend were walking home from downtown June 28 at 12:45 a.m.

As they crossed the viaduct another man passing by allegedly made a disparaging comment about the girlfriend. The man confronted the suspect about the comment and an altercation ensued in the parking lot of the Falcon View apartments on Colorado Avenue.

The suspect then stabbed the man twice, Dial said, once in the shoulder and once under his arm.

“It penetrated his lats but didn’t damage his lungs,” Dial said.

Police were called at 1:08 a.m., where they found a blood trail leading from the scene, Dial said.

The injured man was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Police are still looking for the suspect. He is described as a man in his mid-20s, 6 feet tall, with shoulder-length blond hair and light eyes.

Anyone with information about the incident should call Whitefish Police at 863-2421.
