Boat show comes to Sandpoint
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 9 years, 6 months AGO
SANDPOINT - The 13th annual Antique and Classic Boat Show is motoring into town this weekend.
The boat show will be held at the Sandpoint Marina and Boardwalk on Saturday, July 11. The show, open to the public, runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The annual "Parade of Boats" will take place on Sand Creek and leave from the boardwalk at 3 p.m.
More than 52 classic and antique boats have been registered to attend, some coming from as far away as San Diego, Calif. While many of the popular models of Century and Chris-Craft will be represented, there are some unusual brands not often seen that will be in Sandpoint such as a 1928 Dodge Water Car and a 1930 Dee-Wite. Owners of these boats will be on hand to answer questions and many times will offer rides to the general public.
"Cruising for a Cure" is this year's theme to promote cancer awareness and inspire hope that someday this devastating disease will be cured. To tie in with this year's theme, the cancer ribbon will be incorporated as part of the custom artwork from North Idaho architect/artist Rann Haight.
In addition, the always-popular Children's Boat Building program will be available, where kids of all ages are encouraged to pick out wood blocks to construct and decorate their own custom boats at no cost. More than 180 boats were built by area children in 2014 and tested in the "pond" to demonstrate their "seaworthiness."
The Sandpoint Antique and Classic Boat Show is put on each year by the Inland Empire Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society. The local Inland Empire Chapter has more than 110 members who live within 150 miles of the Sandpoint area. An active chapter, it has hosted the International Boat Show in North Idaho on Lake Coeur d'Alene twice as well as putting on other events such as the "Dry Rot" at Priest Lake on Labor Day weekend and local and regional shows on Lake Coeur d'Alene.
