MILES CITY — The Glacier Babe Ruth 13-year-old All-Stars started the state tournament off on the right foot, beating Belgrade 12-4 on the first day of play.

The Glacier 13s, who have won the last two state titles and made the Babe Ruth World Series last season, got on the board quickly, putting up three runs in the second inning to take an early lead.

Glacier scored two more runs in the third and led 7-1 after the fourth inning before breaking the game open late.

Justin Conklin pitched a complete game to earn the win on the mound for Glacier.

The Kalispell 13s lost 14-2 in five innings to Havre in their first game of the tournament.

Glacier and Kalispell open Friday’s play at 8 a.m. against each other. Kalispell will play Helena at 2 p.m. and Glacier will get its chance at Havre at 5 p.m.

The tournament is played through Sunday.
