COEUR d'ALENE - On Wednesday, ignite cda became a permanent part of the Coeur d'Alene Urban Renewal Agency.

The agency's board of commissioners approved including the ignite cda rebrand into the bylaws during its monthly meeting Wednesday. The decision was called a formality in light of last month's decision by the board to change the name it does business under and remove the previous LCDC moniker.

"If I had to weigh it, it's been more positive than negative," said Executive Director Tony Berns when asked if he had received community feedback on the rebrand.

The majority of the people Berns said he spoke with understood the decision and what the urban renewal agency was trying to accomplish with it.

"I think the folks that have been critical of our efforts in the past will remain critical of our efforts," Berns said. "There's a huge demographic of our community we have not touched yet, and have not been made aware of what we do and how we do it - I think we made a beneficial move."

Board member Brad Jordan, one of two commissioners to vote against the rebrand last month, told the board that he was voting against including ignite cda into the agency's bylaws for the sake of consistency.

"Perhaps I will vote yes on the motion because the rest of the board did approve it," said board member Deanna Goodlander, the other commissioner to vote against ignite cda last month.

In addition to approving the rebranding last month, the board also approved a $54,269 "public education campaign" to inform the public about the change.

Dave Patzer, a board member, reported that a 30-second commercial, part of the "public education campaign," was nearly complete. When he mentioned ignite cda's new website, www.ignitecda.org, Goodlander asked if more information could be added.

"They asked if we could be a little more detailed with our participation instead of saying 'We supported the Kroc Center,'" Goodlander said. "But how did we support the Kroc Center? How did we do some of these things?"

Patzer replied that each of the projects included on the website has the amount ignite cda invested, as well as any jobs that were created because of the project. It also, he said, attempts to estimate the current value of the project.

Chairman Denny Davis then stated that he believed the wish was to include what exactly the urban renewal agency had purchased in each project.

"I think that's worthwhile," Goodlander said. "I think people need to understand it in a little more detail and that they'd appreciate it."

Patzer agreed with Goodlander and said the communications committee would work with Range NW on including the additional information.
