LEGION BASEBALL: Lums win one, lose one
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 9 years, 6 months AGO
BELLEVUE, Wash. - Elliott Sparks scattered seven hits in the first game, and the Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen split a pair of games at the Baden Northwest Invitational on Friday at Newport High.
Sparks struck out four and walked one to improve to 8-0 for Cd'A (26-14), in a 10-1, five-inning win over Lightning Baseball from Denver.
Coeur d'Alene later lost 6-1 to the Seattle Select.
"Elliott got himself to where he was at two summers ago," Lumbermen coach Zach Clanton said. "He became a very crucial part of our pitching staff. We can hand him the ball in any given situation. It's easier to pitch when you get good run support. He did a really good job in getting us the complete game."
Gibson Green, returning from a torn hamstring, went 3 for 3 with three runs and two RBIs for the Lums.
"We were without Gibson for a month," Clanton said. "He's our best hitter, he's our vocal leader. When he's back, it's been a totally different lineup."
Cody Garza, Devin Kluss and Dominic Conigliaro each had two RBIs.
In the loss, Conigliaro had the lone RBI on a single in the first inning, but Seattle roared back with five runs in the top of the third inning.
Coeur d'Alene plays the Spokane Expos today in pool play at Bannerwood Park on the Seattle University campus. The Lums are 1-3 in pool play.
