LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL: Local teams win state openers

IDAHO STATE TOURNAMENTS

At Croffoot Park, Hayden

AGE 10-11

Hayden 14, West Valley 4: Nick LaFleur hit a three-run homer and a two-run double to lead Hayden in the first game of a best-of-3 series for the state title. Liam Paddack also homered, Cooper Larson hit an RBI double and a two-run single, and Demarco Piazza added a two-run double.

Nicholas Schmidt hit a two-run double and Ethan Mikita added an RBI double for West Valley, of the Boise area.

Game 2 is today at 1 p.m.

MAJORS (age 11-12)

Coeur d'Alene 9, West Valley 5: Alex Karns hit a two-run homer for Coeur d'Alene in the first game of the best-of-3 series for the state title. Chase Hilde homered and Jack Ingrahm added a three-run single for West Valley.

Game 2 is today at 1 p.m.

AGE 9-10

Coeur d'Alene 9, Southwest Ada 0: Kyle Bridge and Cameron Harris teamed for the shutout for Coeur d'Alene, in the first game of a best-of-3 series for the state title. Bridge also drove in two runs, one with a triple, and Ethan Taylor knocked in two runs in the win.

Game 2 is today at 10 a.m.
