Pistorese gives up knock in Sox loss

EVERETT, Wash. — Everett AquaSox relief pitcher Joe Pistorese went more than 14 innings into his professional career before allowing his first earned run, a three-run homer in a 10-2 loss to Vancouver on Friday.
Pistorese, a 2011 Flathead grad, entered the game early in relief, taking over on the mound to start the second inning after the Sox starter surrendered three hits and a two-run homer in the first inning. Pistorese was sterling for his first three innings, striking out three batters and holding the Canadians scoreless to keep Everett within a run.
After one out and allowing two runners to reach safely in the fifth inning, Pistorese left a pitch over the plate for Vancouver’s Sean Hurley, who hit a three-run home run to right field to give the Canadians a 5-1 lead.
Pistorese (3-0, 1.84 ERA) exited the game after 3 1/3 innings, allowing six hits, striking out three batters and walking one. Through 14 2/3 innings this season, Pistorese has struck out 13 batters and walked just two, allowing only 15 hits. He is has a WHIP of 1.15 and is holding opposing batters to a .250 average from the plate.
Everett is 17-12 this season and has a one game lead over the Tri-City Dust Devils in the Northwest League’s North division standings. The AquaSox began a five-game series with the Hillsboro Hops on Saturday and host the Spokane Indians for three games leading into the final game of the first half of the NWL season.
