The annual Lincoln County Junior Fair was held this past weekend. This year’s fair marked the 58th time the event has taken place.

The outstanding exhibitor went to nine-year old, Savanah Lucas for her work in arts and crafts. First runner up was seven-year old Julianna Shumate for her baked goods and arts and crafts. Second runner up was 12-year old Shelby Smith for her wild plants display and arts and crafts. Third runner up was seven-year old Nicholas Harper for his colored photo and fourth runner up was 10-year old Sidney Rusdal for her rock collection and arts and crafts.

Cathy Jenks, the director for the Junior Fair has been helping with the event for 16 years.

“It was a great event,” Jenks said. “It’s all about the kids and recognizing their talents and abilities.”

The purpose of the Junior Fair is to promote good sportsmanship and to provide a learning experience for the youth of Lincoln County.

The fair started Thursday, July 16 and ended Saturday, July 18. On Friday, July 17 there was a parade that started at 10 a.m. by Timberline Auto and ended at Asa Wood School. From 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday the exhibits were open for the public to come check out the local youth’s hard work and talents.

Following the open house there was a performing arts contest that started at 7 p.m. There were a number of musical performances and songs from the movie Frozen were popular.

The animal exhibit was at J. Neils Park on Saturday, July 18. The exhibits at the school were open at 2 p.m. and went until 5 p.m. An award presentation took place at 5:30 p.m.

“It truly is a great event for the youth of Lincoln County, Jenks said. “Every exhibit received a ribbon.”
