ALBERTON - The community of Alberton celebrated the 30th annual Railroad Day last weekend and one of the organizers said it was the best edition of the event in its history.

For the last 30 years, Railroad Day has brought attention to the industry that helped put the town on the map during the booming days of the railroad business.

The day long event included a wide variety of activities including a parade, kid’s games, watermelon eating contest, a historical reenactment and tours of the museum among others.

There was also food and live music toward the evening hours.

One of the community members who helped organize the event said he was very pleased with the turnout.

Richard Werst said it took many members of the community and a lot of hard work to bring the event to fruition.

“The turnout was exceptional,” Werst said. “Young and old said it was the best Railroad Day ever. We had a lot of support from Blackfoot Telecommunications, Energy Partners, Republic Services, Northwest Energy and Montana Rail Link all really stepped up for us and helped make this possible.”

Werst said he received positive feedback from some vendors that were new to the event. He said those that were new to the event also expressed a desire to come back next year.
