BERRIES: Picker hits sour patch

For 15 years my husband and I have enjoyed picking huckleberries at our “secret spot” on Fernan Saddle. We have picked alongside other families and there has ALWAYS been plenty of berries for everyone. We were so upset to find that someone beat us to the mountain and took every berry they could find. We walked for three hours with our small children looking for a spot that they missed and found less than one cup of berries.

Shame on you for denying my children one of our favorite summer pastimes. If you are going to take all the berries and ruin the bushes, then go somewhere else where families with young children are not going to pick.

I will refuse to purchase any berries from road stands this year. I wanted to pick them myself and treat my kids to huckleberry pancakes from the berries they picked. I will keep my money in my pocket and you can keep your berries to yourself. I just hope the plants will grow back for next year’s harvest.

I hope Murphy pays you a visit soon.
