Firefighters worked quickly on Sunday to put out an early morning house fire in the Creston area.

The Creston Fire Department was called out at 6:19 a.m. for a home on fire.

Creston Fire Chief Gary Mahugh said that firefighters arrived at the Montana 35 property to find the fire had consumed about 40 percent of the home.

“The resident was outside, so we knew we had no one in the house,” Mahugh said.

The crew went to work and had the fire under control in a matter of minutes, he said. There was only one resident in the home, and no injuries were reported.

Mahugh described significant damage to three rooms of the home, with heat and smoke affecting the other parts.

He said that he didn’t want to speculate on an exact cause of the fire since his team is still investigating. Mahugh did say that it was likely accidental.

Twenty-five firefighters worked on the fire. Evergreen Fire Rescue assisted on the scene.
