POST FALLS - Three Post Falls teens are suspected of taking two golf carts for a joy ride early Saturday, damaging one of the carts and the clubhouse patio.

A 16-year-old male and two 15-year-old males were charged with malicious injury to property and released to their parents.

The three suspects were caught on surveillance at Prairie Falls Golf Club's clubhouse at 3200 N. Spokane St.

"Later that morning, an employee was driving on Grange (a nearby road) when he saw one of the kids matching the same clothing," Post Falls Police Capt. Greg McLean said. "He provided the names of the other suspects and all three confessed to the crime."

McLean said the suspects apparently found keys in one of the carts and decided to take two for a spin on the course around 12:20 a.m.

"They came back and one of the carts struck the clubhouse patio," McLean said.

The estimated damage to the cart was $3,000 and the patio $1,000.

"It ended up being an expensive ride in a golf cart," McLean said.

The cart had a cracked windshield, a dented front hood and moderate damage to the interior, according to the police report. The wooden steps and metal railing on the patio were damaged.

The crash caused the driver to fall from the seat and onto the ground, the report states.

Aside from a cart that was driven through a sand trap, there was no damage on the course itself, McLean said.

The damage was discovered around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday when employees arrived at work.
