The Glacier Twins ‘A’ run to claim the Western A District title came up just short last week after falling to a hot Bitterroot Red Sox club twice in the double-elimination tournament at Polson.

The Sox notched a 6-3 victory over the Twins on Monday afternoon to capture district championship.

“We had opportunities to win it,” Twins coach Bob Rupp said.

“Our bats died. We had the bases all loaded a couple times and it was just fly balls, fly balls and we hit into a double play twice.”

The win sends Bitterroot to the state tournament, while Glacier’s season comes to a close.

The top two teams from district tournaments advance to state. Western A, however, will have its championship team there along with tournament host Kalispell.

Glacier finished in second at the district tourney last year, then went on to win the state championship.

Jesse Walburn was 3 for 4 at the dish with an RBI to lead Glacier in the loss on Monday. James Sampson-Keck and Austin Robbins each tallied two hits.

Bitterroot and Glacier squared off three times in the tourney.

The first meeting came in the semi-finals Saturday where Glacier won 4-3. AJ Wetsch doubled to center to drive in the game-winning run. He also picked up the win on the mound.

Jayce Fagerland and Sampson-Keck each had two hits in the victory.

On Sunday, Bitterroot blasted the Twins 23-4 in the first championship game to force the challenge game.

Glacier wraps up the season with a 41-15 record.
