COEUR d’ALENE — Three small goats doing weed reduction at a 4-acre water well site in Coeur d’Alene were stabbed in a brutal overnight attack.

One died after having its head nearly severed in the incident, which happened late Monday or early Tuesday. Another one had to be put down because of its injuries.

Animal control officers for the Coeur d’Alene Police Department responded at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday to the well site across Fourth Street from Coeur d’Alene High School, Sgt. Christie Wood said.

Wood said the goats were almost like pets.

“They were quite friendly little goats that would come right up to you,” Wood said.
