A 37-year-old Coeur d’Alene man was killed in a traffic accident on U.S. 95 in Hayden Sunday afternoon.

According to Idaho State Police Gary Dixon, 42, Post Falls, was traveling northbound in a 2007 Chevy Suburban on U.S. 95 when he allegedly ran a red light at the intersection of Honeysuckle Avenue.

Jeffrey Kirk, 37, Coeur d Alene, was traveling westbound on Honeysuckle in a 1997 Honda Accord when Dixon’s vehicle hit him broadside on the driver’s side door. Dixon then spun out and struck a 2014 Kia Sportage driven by Susan Pattee, 41, Hayden.

All vehicles came to a stop in the intersection blocking both the north and southbound lanes of U.S. 95.

Kirk, who was the only one injured in the accident, was transported to Kootenai Health where he succumbed to his injuries. Next of kin has been notified. An investigation is ongoing.
