Two people accused of leading law officers on a brief car chase Monday have been jailed and charged in Flathead County District Court.
Roger William Gillespie, 27, was the alleged driver of the vehicle and faces a count of theft, a felony, and eluding a police officer, a misdemeanor.
The car that Gillespie allegedly drove had been reported stolen.
The passenger, 28-year-old Nina Sari Reynolds, was wanted on a $15,000 warrant for charges related to alleged methamphetamine possession.
Police received a tip about the stolen car’s whereabouts on Monday morning, according to court documents. When a Flathead County Sheriff’s Office deputy tried to make a traffic stop, Gillespie took off.
Court documents say that Gillespie took “many reckless actions” in the 10-minute chase down U.S. 2. One witness, a Daily Inter Lake employee, said that the car nearly hit a pair of motorcyclists while weaving in and out of traffic.
The car eventually came to rest near Spruce Road in Evergreen. The suspects tried to run but were tracked down on foot.
According to court documents, Gillespie told police that his backpack contained a “pipe and dope.”
Gillespie was scheduled for an initial appearance in Justice Court on Tuesday.
Reynolds is scheduled for an arraignment on June 18.
Both are being held in the Flathead County Detention Center.
