Cosmetic surgery, not just for women

Although our practice sees a majority of women for cosmetic surgery, these body enhancing procedures are not exclusively just for the female gender. In recent years we've seen an increasing number of men consulting to address their physical concerns. For some this is aging, for others it may be looking for help after massive weight loss, and yet for others the concern is maintaining youthfulness in an increasingly competitive job market.
These concerns can be addressed in several different ways at Owsley Plastic Surgery and often we recommend a multi-faceted approach to achieve the best results. To improve skin quality, we highly recommend a series of chemical peels followed by quality home care products, such as SkinCeuticals. If veins are your concern, you may be a candidate for laser treatment. If volume loss and facial aging are what's bugging you, injectables, such as Dysport and Perlane may be able to treat your problem areas. If other areas or more aggressive aging is the issue, you may be a surgical candidate.
The surgical procedures most sought after by men in our area include, but are not limited to liposuction, facelift, and upper and lower blepharoplasty (eyelid lift). Liposuction can be performed on many areas of the body but in men is most commonly seen in the abdomen and flanks, chest, back, thighs and chin. Facelifts address the deep lines and facial aging, and often most importantly, the "turkey neck." Blepharoplasty, or eyelid lifts, can be performed on the upper and lower lids and is a relatively simple procedure that can be done in office. Blepharoplasties help to get rid of the sleepy and tired look that we tend to get as we age by removing the sagging skin and excess fat located in our lids. Upper blepharoplasties can also potentially be covered by insurance, if the upper lids are blocking a portion of the visual field which can be determined by your local eye doctor.

Massive weight loss: Now what?
So you’ve lost a lot of weight. You may be asking yourself, “now what?” Whether it was through diet and exercise, bariatric surgical intervention, or a combination of both, massive weight loss is an incredible accomplishment and the first step toward a healthy future for those battling obesity. Unfortunately, for many who go through this process, they are often left with excess skin and stretch marks, and can be subject to uncomfortable rashes and infections in the folds of their skin. These patients also battle psychological distress due to the fact that they are confronted with a whole new body image issue after losing the weight. This excess of skin is most common in the arms, chest, abdomen, back/buttocks, and thighs. Surgical intervention is typically the best option for these issues.
Can I have cosmetic surgery if I'm overweight?
This is one of the most commonly asked questions from patients seeking body contouring procedures. Body weight and how it relates to your body mass index is very important in prescreening patients for their eligibility for surgical intervention. It is even more important in patients who have had massive weight loss. Being at a healthy and stable weight prior to surgery typically means that the patient is more likely to do well in recovery, healing time, and outcome.
Mini versus full tummy tuck; which option is right for me?
One of our most commonly sought after procedures following childbirth or weight loss is the abdominoplasty, commonly referred to as a tummy tuck. People often inquire about the possibility of a "mini" tummy tuck. Each patient's body and needs are different and the best way to determine what is best for you is to visit us for a complimentary consultation.
