A proposal to change the zoning on five acres of land along Whitefish Stage Road to light industrial is the focus of two public hearings June 10 before the Flathead County Planning Board.

David Schmeeckle and Schmeeckle Brothers LLC are asking for a Kalispell Master Plan amendment to change the land-use designation on the property from suburban/urban residential to light industrial, and then want the zoning changed from two-family limited residential to light industrial.

The first hearing will deal with the master-plan amendment and will be followed by the zone-change hearing.

The property is located at 1101 Whitefish Stage Road.

Schmeeckle has owned the land for a number of years and has operated a number of businesses on the property. He intends to expand one of the businesses but needs a conditional-use permit because the business is a legal non-conforming use, according to the application submitted to the Planning Office.

The property is next to a tract of industrial-zoned property.

Another public hearing will consider a request by Gary and Jessica Krueger to change the zoning on 109.45 acres of farmland from agricultural with a 40-acre minimum lot size to suburban agriculture with a 5-acre minimum lot size.

The property is located off Fox Farm Road in the West Valley area. A portion of one of the tracts borders the Stillwater River at the northeast corner.

According to the Kruegers’ application, they “would like to create some smaller lots at some point in the future for retirement income.”

A fourth hearing on the board’s agenda is a request from Ridgeline Cabins LLC for approval of Ridgeline Cabins, a 15-lot residential major subdivision on 12.7 acres. The development would replace five lots currently within the Eagle Development Phase 2. The proposed subdivision, located a mile south of Lakeside and accessed by Ridgeline Drive off U.S. 93, would be served by a public water and sewer system.

The board meets at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, in the second-floor conference room of the Earl Bennett Building, 1035 First Ave. W. in Kalispell.
