Smila Emiliya Nassar, 69

Smila Nassar, 69, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho passed away peacefully on Monday, March 23, 2015 with her children by her side. Smila was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on May 31, 1945 to Alexander and Daisy Gyukin. She graduated from Linden High School in Linden, New Jersey in 1964. She moved to La Mirada, California in 1965 and worked at Arnold's Farm House Restaurant. Smila married Michael Nassar on June 18, 1966.

In June 1978, they moved to Coeur d'Alene, where they raised their two children, daughter Michele and son, Brian. Smila retired from the Lakeland School District after 31 years of service and received the Superintendent's Legacy Award in 2014. Smila loved to travel, especially to Florida, where she spent time with her grandchildren going to Walt Disney World and taking cruises on Disney Cruise Line. She also enjoyed shopping, going to the movies, and eating out at restaurants.

Smila was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Nassar, and her parents, Alexander and Daisy Gyukin. She is survived by her children, daughter and son-in-law Michele and Scott Schaag of Kissimmee, Florida, and son Brian Nassar of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; four grandchildren: Emily, Alexander, and Zachary Schaag of Kissimmee, Florida, and Michael Nassar of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; her brother and sister-in-law Milan and Mary Ann Gyukin of Queen Creek, Arizona, and nieces Nancy Johnson of Apache Junction, Arizona, and Charlene Gyukin of Queen Creek, Arizona.

There will be a celebration of Smila's life held at a later date. Donations in Smila's honor can be made to the Kootenai Humane Society.
