SELECT SOCCER
Sting at State Cup: In its 13th year, the Sting Premier Soccer Club recently had 12 teams place at the Idaho Youth Soccer Association State Championships.
The Sting had six teams compete in the championship game (a record for soccer clubs in North Idaho) with one first-place finish. The U18 Sting Premier Ladies took first place.
The following Sting teams took second place - U17 boys Sting Premier, U16 boys Sting Premier Gold, U15 girls Sting Premier Morales, U14 girls Sting Premier Galaxy and U13 girls Sting Premier Eindhoven.
The U15 boys Sting Ruchti and U14 boys Manchester United each took third in the State Cup, and the U18 boys Sting Premier Thompson, U13 boys Sting Valencia and U12 boys Leeds placed fourth, as well as the U16 girls Sting Premier Roma.
The Academy Idaho under-12 boys: The Academy took third place at the 3 Blind Refs Tournament in Kalispell, Mont.
The Academy beat Flathead Soccer 4-2. Devin Claflin scored two goals, and Braden Ferreira and Ethan Lawson scored once each. Ethan Lawson, Brayson Harrington and Braden Ferreira each had assists.
The Academy beat Helena 8-0, on goals by Cody Carvajal, Ayden Tweety, Alex Moate, Braden Ferreira, Caden McLean, Brayson Harrington, Ethan Lawson and Kameron Heston. Assists were by Braden Ferreira, Kameron Heston and Alex Moate. Caden McLean and AJ Curson teamed in goal for the shutout.
In the semifinals, the Academy lost to CWSA from Canada 3-1. Andrew Ferreira scored for the Academy.
In the third-place game, the Academy beat West Hills from Canada 4-0. Braden Ferreira, Cody Carvajal, Ethan Lawson and Kameron Heston each scored once in the win.
Sting U12 girls Benfica: The Sting took third place last weekend at the 3 Blind Refs soccer tournament in Kalispell, Mont.
The first game against Southwest United Invictus was a 3-2 loss with both Sting goals scored by Cailyn Garza and one assisted by Lily Fletcher.
Game 2 against the Flathead Force was a 4-2 loss with goals scored by McKenzie Mattis assisted by Tate Hochberger, and Dillen Duncan assisted by Kristin Luna.
Game 3 against FC Missoula was a 7-3 win with four goals scored by Dillen Duncan and three goals by Tate Hochberger, with an assist by Jordyn Dennis.
Benfica won its final game against ADSA FC 8-2. Dillen Duncan scored a hat trick, with assists by Cailyn Garza and Jordyn Dennis. McKenzie Mattis scored two goals, with an assist by Cailyn Garza, and Tate Hochberger, Cailyn Garza and Chloe Biediger each scored once.
Academy Idaho U14 girls: The Cads finished second at the 3 Blind Refs tournament last weekend in Kalispell, Mont.
On Saturday, the Cads beat the Flathead Force White 6-0. Cali Shipman scored a hat trick, Hannah Clark added two goals and Lauren Hoffeld.
Later that day, the Academy beat Helena Youth Gold 3-0. Hannah Clark scored two goals, Janessa Ingram one.
On Sunday, the Academy tied Electric City Royal 0-0.
In the championship game, the Cads lost 2-1 to the Missoula Strikers. Lindsey Shaw scored for the Cads.
WRESTLING
Oregon State assistant to put on camp: Kevin Roberts, former North Idaho College assistant wrestling coach and current Oregon State assistant, heads the instructional staff for Northwest Wrestling Camps, which stops in Coeur d'Alene next Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day at Coeur d'Alene High School.
Roberts, from Spokane, is a two-time NCAA All-American. He will be assisted by Michael Mangrum, an NCAA All-American.
The camps will cover all areas of wrestling.
Tuition is $99 per camper, with family and team discounts available.

COEUR d'ALENE RECREATION
Intro to skateboarding: The Coeur d'Alene Recreation Department, in conjunction with the Cd'A Skateboard Park, are launching a new skateboard lessons program that is designed to give from basic on up to intermediate understanding of how to skateboard.
