Authorities have released the name of a man who died Tuesday in a head-on collision on U.S. 2 north of Evergreen.

Daniel J. Trenk, an 18-year-old Coram resident, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident north of the Birch Grove intersection.

Trenk’s Oldsmobile crossed into the opposite lane and struck a sport utility vehicle, according to Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry. The SUV then crashed into a pickup.

Trenk’s passenger was taken to Kalispell Regional Medical Center. Curry said that the woman has her jaw wired shut at this time.

The occupants of the SUV — a mother and her infant — also were hospitalized.

Curry said Thursday that the three injured people are in stable condition.

Witnesses said that Trenk’s vehicle had veered across all four lanes of traffic prior to the crash. The Sheriff’s Office is still looking into the case.
