LIBBY — The hits kept on coming — for both teams.

In a nine-inning American Legion baseball contest, the Glacier Twins and Libby Loggers combined for 34 hits, 11 of which went for extra bases, as Glacier pulled away late for a 20-9 victory on Tuesday.

The Twins scored three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to take a 8-2 advantage. Libby responded with five runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the defecit to 8-7.

But Glacier stayed hot.

The Twins scored twelve runs in the final two innings, — six in each — to distance themselves for the win.

Glacier finished with six doubles and a triple.

Vinny Smith was 4 for 7 at the plate, driving in two runs for the Twins. He was one of four Glacier players with a multi-RBI game. Colten Parker, who tripled, Derek Kastella and Kaleb Veneman also drove in two runs for the Twins.

Smith, Kyler Howke and Austin Robins scored three runs each for Glacier.

The Loggers were led at the plate by Oliver Grupenhoff. He finished a perfect 4 for 4 in the box, slapping two doubles and two singles for a pair of RBIs.

Teammates Luke Haggerty and Jared Winslow also doubled for the Loggers. Haggerty went 2 for 5 with an RBI while Winslow was 2 for 4 with an RBI of his own. Both crossed the plate twice for Libby.

Jonny Sapa earned the win on the mound for the Twins. The righty threw five innings, striking out as many batters while allowing just two earned runs.

Counterpart Erik Lauer lasted nearly four innings before being relieved by Braydan Thom.

Lauer sent down three batters while giving up four earned runs.

Each team commited four errors.

Glacier finished with 23 hits. Libby tallied 11.

Glacier hits the road for the Prairie Cardinal baseball tournament in Post Falls, Idaho beginning on Friday.

Libby will look to regroup in their road doubleheader with the Cranbrook Bandits on Saturday with first-pitch set for 1 p.m.
