POST FALLS - Kandi Kuck, principal at Frederick Post Kindergarten for the past three years, has been hired as the new principal at Seltice Elementary.

"This is a very exciting time, but also bittersweet," Kuck said. "I am leaving some wonderful teachers and staff at Frederick Post. I am also ready for this new challenge and can't wait to get started."

At Seltice, Kuck replaces Barney Brewton, who is retiring.

Brewton started his work in Post Falls as principal of Prairie View Elementary in 1994. He was hired as the district's director of federal programs and curriculum and as the principal at Ponderosa Elementary in 2001.

Brewton was the district's director of elementary programs and instruction from 2003 until 2011, when he became Seltice's principal and continued to oversee federal programs and curriculum.

Brewton oversaw the district's efforts to start a year-round school at Prairie View from 1996 to 1999. An avid tennis player, Brewton has given tennis balls to students as rewards over the years.

Kuck has worked in the Post Falls district since 1995. She has also been a special education teacher and taught first- and third-graders.

Prior to coming to Post Falls, Kuck worked for Inland Northwest Behavioral Health in Coeur d'Alene as an educational support director.

Kuck has a bachelor's degree in special education from Gonzaga University and a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Idaho.

Superintendent Jerry Keane said a replacement for Kuck at Frederick Post will be named during the summer.
