Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 9 years, 7 months AGO
Pend Oreille Players Association wraps up its 11th season with romance, history and guns! Directed by Millie Brumbaugh, the landmark musical "Oklahoma!" will be the first theatrical production in the new Pend Oreille Playhouse. Originally the Newport Creamery, this wonderful bit of local history is now the Pend Oreille Playhouse at the Creamery.
"Oklahoma!" was the first musical collaboration of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. Set in Oklahoma Territory in 1906, the high-spirited rivalry between farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background for some difficult romantic choices. Laurey, a young farm owner, must choose between Curly, a cowboy, and Jud, her hired hand. Ado Annie, a farmer's daughter, must choose between Will, a cowboy, and Ali, a peddler. Choosing the right man can be mighty tricky sometimes.
Shows are June 19, 20, 26, 27 at 7 p.m., and June 21 and 28 at 3 p.m., at the Pend Oreille Playhouse at the Creamery, 236 S. Union in Newport, Wash.
Tickets are $5 for students 18 and younger, $10 for adults in advance, and $12 for adults at the door.
